How to design your home to promote mindfulness and wellbeing

A well-designed home isn’t just about aesthetics—it has the power to shape your mood, boost your mindset, and improve your overall well-being. When approaching a home renovation, you can intentionally design a space that nurtures relaxation, encourages positivity, and supports a lifestyle that aligns with your values. Here are some of the ways in which you can do that:

Custom designed bathroom with large window in front of the freestanding bath

Let in the outdoors

Spending time out in nature is a great way to feel more relaxed and connected with yourself and the world around you. Bringing in parts of nature into the home can also have a similar effect. In particular, we recommend:

  • Having large windows to bring in more sunlight and natural views

  • Placing windows in ways that allow airflow to pass through the home when open

  • Having indoor plants throughout (which will also purify the air!)

  • Using natural textures like timber, stone and linen

Create dedicated zones for healthy habits

There are particular habits that are known to improve your wellbeing, like exercise and meditation. If you struggle to find motivation for these, you can help improve this by creating dedicated zones that you enjoy being in for these activities. Whether it's a bright sunny room for doing yoga, or a cosy reading nook for journaling, having a designated space encourages consistency. This also works for working from home - having a dedicated WFH space you enjoy spending time in, will help make this more enjoyable!

Reduce clutter and stress

Clutter can start to pile up when you're busy, and the mess can really add to your mental stress. To combat this, we recommend custom storage, in specific locations that allows everything to have it's place. This could mean creating 'drop zones' for things like keys and shoes, or adding specific storage in your living area for hobbies.

Make your floorplan more effortless

If you’ve ever felt frustrated by spaces in your home that just don’t “work,” it’s likely due to an issue with your floorplan or layout. These floorplan friction areas could be the layout of your kitchen joinery, the location of light switches or an unnecessarily long but narrow hallway. A well-designed floorplan should feel intuitive—like everything is exactly where it needs to be for a seamless flow through your home. This means you can spend less time fighting your home, and more time doing the things you love.

Make it yours

Nothing is better than having spaces that feel like an extension of you. It could be a feature wall in your favourite colour, an artwork that you really connect with, displays of items from your travels or a dedicated space for your crafting. Whatever activities, colours, patterns or items bring you true joy should be a part of your home!

When thoughtfully designed, your home becomes more than just a place to live—it becomes a powerful tool to support clarity, calm and a positive mindset every single day. By aligning your environment with how you want to feel and live, you create a space that gently lifts you up and brings out your best self.
